A large sinkhole and water main are being repaired after a water main break Tuesday in Florissant. Today, crews brought in equipment and assessed the damage. No word yet on how long repairs will take.
The water main break was widespread Tuesday, affecting dozens of customers at its height. Kathy Valdez with Florissant Water & Sanitation said their tank lost 80,000 gallons of water due to the break.
Wednesday, as crews worked to assess repairs associated with the break, they located a large chunk of ice. They believe that chunk of ice is what caused the pipe to burst and subsequently caused the sinkhole.
Valdez says the break probably occurred around 1 or 2 a.m. Tuesday. Their company began receiving calls about water outages about 5:30 a.m.
The water main break also caused a large sinkhole to form on Hillside Drive. The sinkhole is reportedly 8 feet long and at least 7 feet deep.
