The man suspected of fatally shooting a police office in Chattanooga, TN was already wanted in Colorado Springs for aggravated robbery.
11 News first told you about Jesse Mathews about 6 weeks ago when he was featured in Monday's Most Wanted for aggravated robbery in Colorado Springs.
Now, the 25-year-old is accused of killing Sgt. James Chapin in a shootout Saturday in Tennessee.
Chattanooga police responded to a robbery alarm at a pawn shop. When officers arrived, they were reportedly shot at by Mathews. Sgt. Chapin was shot in the head and died. Another officer, Lorin Johnston, was hit by a bullet. Johnston was treated and released. The bullet had hit his vest.
Sgt. Chapin had been a police officer for 27 years and nearing his retirement.
