Victim Snaps Photo Of Break-In Suspects

A Colorado Springs man grabbed his camera after seeing thieves break into his car overnight.

The photo, which shows the alleged crooks inside a getaway car, is now going into evidence, and police say could become the key in identifying the suspects.

Victim Ben Ives' quick thinking may have also prevented the suspects from hitting other homes; he tells 11 News the suspects looked like they were heading down the street when they noticed him taking photos.

Ives, who has a newborn baby, said he was having trouble sleeping around 2 a.m. Friday when he heard a car idling a little too long in front of his house.

"I looked out our window over our driveway and saw three guys getting out of my car," Ives said.

Ives said he owns a gun, but didn't want to escalate things so he grabbed his camera instead.

"[I] ran out there and took their picture as they are running off."

The suspects got away with some cash and several other items from the car.

It's unknown at time if Ives' house was the first to be hit, or if the suspects broke into any cars before that. Ives lives is in the Rockrimmon area.

If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
