Victim Assaulted During Home Invasion

Residents at the Garden Apartments are still reeling from the news that one of their neighbors was the victim of a frightening home invasion Thursday night.

Police say an armed man kicked in the door of one of the units and assaulted one of the residents inside. That resident sustained injuries severe enough to require treatment at a local hospital. The suspect reportedly struck him in the face with an unknown object.

"I don't get how that can happen to somebody in their own house," Kendra, the victim's neighbor, told 11 News.

Kendra says she usually feels safe in her home, but was nervous about what happened Thursday night.

"My son was in here," she said.

Police say witnesses saw three or four men run from the apartment. The armed suspect has been described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a black jacket. No descriptions have been provided for the other suspects.

If you have any information that can help authorities, you are asked to call Springs police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.

The Garden Apartments are located on the 3300 block of Verde Drive, near Circle and Fountain.
