Veterans will be gathering at the El Paso County Courthouse Thursday to protest the exclusion of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to existing medical marijuana laws.

A new group has formed called "Veterans for 64" has thrown their support behind a ballot initiative of the same name after a second denial by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to add PTSD to the list of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana use. If passed in November, Amendment 64 would legalize the recreational use of marijuana.

"The state's failure to act is an effective denial of this compassionate petition," said Vietnam veteran and group chairman Bob Wiley in a statement. "Our only option is to support Amendment 64, which will ensure that Coloradans 21 and older who suffer from PTSD will no longer be subject to arrest and prosecution for using marijuana."

The group will be holding the rally at noon Thursday.
