Colorado Springs police will ticket two drivers for their roles in a sequence of accidents on Southbound Interstate 25 at Cimarron Street.
The first of the two consecutive accidents involved a white Chevrolet sedan driven by Tony Sanchez. Police say one of the vehicle’s tires blew out around 9:50 a.m., causing Sanchez to lose control and hit the center barrier.
The Chevy came to a stop blocking the left and center lanes of traffic.
As a result of the first accident, traffic backed up along I-25. Police say Tiffany Jameson failed to notice the slowing traffic and drove her blue Chevrolet coupe into the rear end of a grey Chevrolet SUV.
The grey SUV was able to drive out of traffic, but Jameson’s vehicle was disabled in the left lane and she was injured.
Jameson was taken to the hospital by ambulance, police say. The other driver was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Neither of their injuries appears to be life-threatening.
Sanchez, the driver of the first vehicle to crash, will be issued several summonses associated with the traffic accident. Additionally, police say Jameson will be cited for careless driving.
The traffic delays from the accidents lasted about 50 minutes. Passing vehicles were funneled into a single lane for the investigation and cleanup.
