Suspects who broke into a Springs home got more than they bargained for Monday night.
Police say three men forced their way into a home on Saint Vrain Street near Union and Platte Avenue. But the man who lives there was home at the time. There was a struggle between the men and that's when investigators say the resident grabbed a gun and shot two of the crooks.
Both of the injured men tried to run from the house. But after a block they couldn't go any further and had to stop because of their injuries.
When police arrived on scene the men were rushed to the hospsital. One of the suspects is in critical condition, while the other is in stable condition.
The victim was not injured in the home invasion and police do not believe he knew the suspects.
The shooting remains under investigation.
