Firefighters have a fire that burned two homes in Cascade under control.
Fire crews tell us that one house was fully engulfed in flames and is completely destroyed.
A man and woman were at home sleeping when the fire broke out. The man said he woke up and saw fire above them. They were able to escape the home, but their dog was killed in the fire.
The second home was partially engulfed in flames and sustained heavy damages. It is unknown if anyone was home at the time.
Nearby trees also started to catch on fire, but crews were able to put them out.
The Cascade Fire Department requested backup from both the Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park and Manitou Springs Fire Departments.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fountain Ave in Cascade-Chipita Park was closed in both directions at Pikes Peak Highway after the fire as crews worked to clear ice that built up on the road during the fire. The ice was from water used to fight the fire.
