A trooper injured during a high-speed chase through the Denver area on March 12 has been released from the hospital, Colorado State Patrol says.
Bellaman Hee left the hospital Wednesday, two weeks after he was hit by the suspect while deploying stop sticks. Hee was trying to stop suspect Ryan Stone, accused of carjacking multiple vehicles while leading officers on a high-speed chase from Longmont to the Denver metro. A 4-year-old was inside one of the stolen vehicles.
The suspect's exact speed at the time he struck Hee is not known, but authorities say Stone reached speeds upwards of 80 mph at points during the chase.
Authorities said it was rare for a law enforcement officer to be seriously injured in the line of duty, and said the fact that Hee was, was a tragedy.
Hee underwent surgery following the incident.
