Tree Stops Driver from Careening Down Hill and into Homes

A driver nodded off behind the wheel Sunday before veering off the road and hitting a tree, according to police. The tree was the only thing between the vehicle and a steep drop with homes at the bottom.

Colorado Springs police say that driver will likely be ticketed with careless driving.

Two passengers were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The driver was not transported, according to the KKTV crew at the scene.

The car went off the road and through landscaping rocks before hitting the tree, which is located in a yard.

Some of the rocks flew into the home, breaking a window and putting holes in the siding.

The car's bumper detached and flew down the hill, landing near one of the homes at the bottom.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday near East Rockrimmon Blvd. and I-25 in Colorado Springs.
