Colorado State troopers say an accident on I-70 near milepost 207 had lanes of traffic closed for most of Sunday. The crash happened about 3:30 p.m.

Troopers say a truck was traveling down the tunnel grade on westbound I-70 when its brakes failed. The truck sideswiped a Chevrolet Trailblazer causing both vehicles to rollover.

At least one person from SUV had to be cut out of the vehicle has serious injuries. Two other occupants also sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the truck, Mona Hauan, age 59 from Texas, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Hauan has been cited for careless driving causing injuries. Excessive speed for the steep grade is believed to be the leading contributing factor in the crash.

Troopers say the truck was carrying a material used in drilling operations called sulfatrol. It spilled onto the roadway during the crash causing the interstate to be closed for several hours. The material is not believed to be a hazard.

We were hiking below I-70 when crash occurred. Heard a giant bang -- as though its load had fallen -- saw a green semi careening really fast down the I-70 hill and then saw a giant plume of smoke. From what we witnessed, the "bang" started everything. Seems inconsistent with brake failure. Was epic to watch.
