Town Searching For Temporary Town Hall After Fire

Green Mountain Falls is hoping to find a temporary town hall after their century-old town hall burned to the ground last week.

The town hall was engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene at 12:35 a.m. Thursday. High winds pushed the flames towards a neighboring home, which sustained damage to the windows and walls. No one was injured.

The fire was extinguished after an hour, but destroyed countless documents before it could be put out. The fire is believed to have been set intentionally; a standoff near Wasson High School Friday is reportedly related to the fire.

According to Mayor Tyler Stevens, the fire destroyed city records including town council and planning commission documents. Those losses could cause problems in the future, and various groups are meeting to decide how best to move forward.

Stevens says the community has banded together in the wake of the fire, and hope to have an interim town hall by Thursday.
