Town Hall Meeting Draws Standing Room Only Crowd

A solution to parking headaches in Manitou Springs was one of many topics discussed at a townhall meeting in Old Colorado City Tuesday night.

About 100 people piled into the Old Colorado City History Center for the meeting hosted by Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach.

Neighbors had a chance to speak about any concerns they had about their communities.

"We have to do for ourselves,” said Julie Kasten after the meeting. “But that's okay! That's the kind of people we are."

City representatives including Police Chief Pete Carey spoke about a number of issues. Among the announcements Tuesday included two from the city transit office. Beginning April 1, the city will offer extended hours to seven city bus routes, to include routes, 1,3,5,7,9,11 and 25. Under the extended hours bus service on those routes will go until 9:45 p.m.

It was also announced Tuesday a free shuttle through Manitou Springs will be operated by Mountain Metropolitan Transit starting May 19. The shuttle will operate seven days a week from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. and will include a stop at the Manitou Incline. Planners hope the shuttle will alleviate crowded parking in Manitou Springs.

The free shuttle will run one week past Labor Day.
