Three Victims In I-25 Crash Identified

Colorado State Patrol has released the identities of three people killed in a crash on I-25 Sunday morning.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. at mile marker 123. That is south of Fountain and just north of the Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Troopers say that the driver of a Honda Accord lost control and veered off the roadway, striking a guardrail and then rolling the car.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Jade Valdez, was the only survivor. Her three passengers were all ejected during the rollover and died at the scene. They have been identified as 30-year-old Victor Hernandez-Briano, a Mexican citizen living in Pueblo; Eladio Esparza-Hernandez, also a Mexican citizen residing in Pueblo; and Aushlaey Maldonado, 21, of Pueblo. Troopers say the Mexican Consulate has been notified about the deaths of the two Mexican citizens.

Valdez was ejected and partially pinned after the crash. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Central Hospital, where she remains as of Tuesday.

Troopers say none of the victims were wearing seat belts.

State Patrol says they are still investigating the crash, but believe that alcohol and driver fatigue may have been contributing factors.

Charges against Valdez are pending.
