Thousands of families in our community got some much needed items and gifts for the Holiday season.
It’s called “Feed the Children” and it’s a way for the Department of Human Services to give to those who are already getting help from them.
Around 10 thousand people were expected to take advantage of the 13th annual Christmas giveaway.
The celebration offers families food, toys, and toiletries, plus everything they need to get ready for the holiday, such as gifts for the parents, and haircuts for the kids.
Youngsters also took part in arts and crafts, got pictures with Santa, and families got to take portraits together.
"It's a true blessing, that so many churches come together to help people like us. We really rely on it. I just think there are so many good people in this world. It's a true blessing so many people need the help too,” said Sharon Thompson who is raising two grand-kids, one with special needs.
Thompson says it’s an event the kids look forward to each year.
“It’s so sad for the children that don’t have anything. They can come her and have such a good time. It just brightens everybody’s day and holiday season,” said Thompson.
A Department of Human Services spokesperson tells us that more than one in every ten people in El Paso County are on food assistance.
Everything that was given away, was donated.
