Teens Thrown From Car In Otero County Crash

Three teens were thrown from their vehicle as their car rolled off the road early Friday morning.

The crash happened at 3:30 a.m. on Highway 109, five miles south of La Junta.

Colorado State Patrol says the 18-year-old driver over-corrected when he started drifting off the highway, causing his Chevy Camaro to roll multiple times in the other direction. The vehicle landed on its top off the west side of the road.

No one in the car was wearing a seat belt, according to troopers who responded to the accident.

The driver and a 19-year-old girl were flown to Denver with moderate-to-serious injuries. A 14-year-old was treated at a hospital in La Junta, then arrested on an unrelated warrant.

State Patrol is now investigating the possibility that alcohol and drugs played a part in the crash. Charges are pending.
