Colorado Springs police and a SWAT team have arrested a man after a long standoff at an apartment complex.

Police officers surrounded the Fir Tree Apartments, near Radiant and Academy Boulevard, just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday as they searched for a wanted fugitive.

Officers say the suspect locked himself in an apartment. After six hours of negotiations, SWAT broke down the door and took the man into custody. Police say there was a woman inside the apartment but she was not harmed.

We talked to neighbors who were asked to evacuate during the standoff.

“I came home from work and there were a bunch of K-9 units and they had wanted posters out looking for a man who was supposedly staying here. They asked if we knew him but none of us recognized him.” Ashley Hanson described.

“We packed up the baby and went and wandered around the Walmart for a couple hours and then came back here. We were wondering if we would have to get a hotel room, but luckily we talked to a nice SWAT officer and soon after they gave the 'all clear,'” Leanne Gilstrap said.

Just after 10 p.m. residents were allowed back into their apartments.

Police have identified the suspect as Michael Quirova. They have not said what he was wanted for at this time.
