Suspect Arrested on Shots Fired Call in Canon City

Two women say they were trying to leave a party when their host pulled a gun on them.

Officers say the suspect got upset that they wanted to leave, and threatened to shoot them if they left the party. The victims told authorities that the suspect fired a shotgun as they drove away.

Canon City police officers and Fremont County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene on the 200 block of West Stanley at 1 a.m. after receiving a shots fired call, and found the two women nearby. That's when the women reported what had just occurred.

Officers arrested 21-year-old Carlos Sanchez Cruz of Canon City for attempted first-degree assault, prohibited use of weapons and felony menacing without incident. Cruz is currently in custody at the Fremont County Detention Center on a $6,000 bond.

This investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Canon City Police Department at 276-5600, or Crime Stoppers at 275-STOP.
