In the span of just a couple of hours, at least one suspect committed a series of armed robberies in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs.

Police later located an unoccupied Chevy Trailblazer, which they say ultimately led to the arrest of a suspect.

According to police, two hotels and one convenience store were robbed within an hour in the Springs Saturday night. In each case, the suspect held the business up at gunpoint, then left in a white SUV.

The Hampton Inn on 2077 Aerotech Plaza, the Days Inn at 2409 E. Pikes Peak Ave., and a 7-Eleven were the three Springs businesses hit.

Springs police soon learned that Manitou Springs police were investigating armed robberies at a Days Inn and a Loaf 'N Jug committed earlier Saturday evening by a similar suspect. Police determined that the five robberies were all connected.

Officers got a break in the case just before midnight when Officer T. Donovan came across a vehicle matching the one associated with the robberies, parked on the 200 block of University Drive. The Chevy Trailblazer appeared to have suspicious looking items inside that matched items described at the various crime scenes.

After the vehicle was impounded, police received a call reporting a stolen vehicle--matching the vehicle that had just been impounded. While investigating that call, officers were led to 28-year-old Anthony Powell, who was arrested in connection to the earlier crime spree. Police say Powell matched the suspect description, and evidence collected also linked him to the robberies.

Powell has been charged by CSPD with three robberies and is expected to be charged with the two robberies in Manitou Springs. Police are still investigating the crime spree, and say that there may be an additional suspect that will be charged.
