Student Accused Of Making Threats With Gun

A teen is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening students at a Pueblo middle school Thursday.

A police spokesman tells 11 News that a staff member at Risley Middle School called saying that a student was outside the school with a gun, threatening other students.

Police say they caught the 14-year-old after a short chase. The suspect turned out to be a former student at the school. He was allegedly threatening students who still attend the school.

Police say the suspect threw the gun over a fence right before he was caught, but officers recovered the gun. It turned out to be a BB gun, but closely resembled a more deadly firearm.

The teen is facing two charges of felony menacing and is currently at the Pueblo Youth Center.

Police say because of the seriousness of the charges, the suspect will have to stay at the Center until the teen appears before a judge. At that time, the judge will decide whether to release the teen into the custody of the parents, or keep the suspect at the Youth Center until the situation is resolved.
