Fire crews worked quickly to put out a fire in the basement of a home on the 3100 block of El Paso St., near Fillmore.

Only one man was in the three level home at the time of the fire, and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Fire officials say the man had been recovering from a stint of pneumonia, which made his struggles with smoke worse than normal. He is reportedly been released, and will be fine.

Firefighters have set up fans in all the entryways of the home to ventilate the smoke out of the house, so that the people who live upstairs can move back in.

During the fire, a water pipe burst in the basement, causing worse damage to the basement than the fire itself. Fire crews say it may have caused enough damage to temporarily displace anyone who lives in that part of the house.

Right now they aren't sure exactly what caused the fire. Investigators will try to determine the cause.
