Roads are icy in spots that saw accumulating snow yesterday. Allow yourself plenty of extra time this morning and dress warmly, as wind chills are in the single digits and teens for many. A second disturbance will bring another round of snow showers to the Front Range this afternoon and early evening. While not as heavy as yesterday, some additional light accumulations over the higher terrain will be possible, including Teller and Northern El Paso Counties. Highs in the 30s and 40s will feel colder when factoring a blustery northwest wind. Click on the 'Weather' tab for more...
The Little Market and Deli on 749 E. Williamette Avenue has been open for more than 100 years and is set to close its doors for good this month.
The store's owner tells 11 News because of competition from chain stores and the economic slow down, staying open is not an option.
"It's been a decision in the works for over three years and this winter finally I said, 'that's it, I can't do it anymore,'" said Chris Bettendorf who has owned the market for the last 13 years.
Bettendorf said the store has been open since 1902 according to some early fire maps of Colorado Springs.
"I was upset, I really liked that it's a family owned business, and it's sad to hear that it's closing after 111 years," said Francisca Dannemann, a frequent customer.
Bettendorf wants to thank all the customers who have visited The Little Market throughout the years. It's final day of business will be December 24.
