A group working to prevent drunk driving has given thousands of rides. Designated Driver of Colorado Springs offers free rides to people who've had a few too many.
"A lot of times people will say, gosh I've only had a four or five drinks, I'm OK,” Nonie Rispin said. “I need my car tomorrow morning so I'm good to drive because I'm a good drunk driver.”
The non-profit drives people home in their cars provided they have insurance. They believe they are making a difference, and a mother of a victim says they are also. She lost her daughter after a drunk driver went the wrong direction down I-25.
"The car doesn't even look like a car anymore, and my daughter isn't here for me to hug or to hold,” Diana Smith said. “I lost a child, and I didn't need to. It could have been prevented."
It's changed Smith's life. Now she's an advocate for responsible driving.
"Having a felony record, losing your license, losing a loved one, anyway you look at it, it's beyond devastating,” Smith said.
