A cat that was rescued from alleged kitten killer Robert Heckmann's home is ready to be adopted.

People who would like to adopt Stewie can apply starting at noon Wednesday by going to the Pikes Peak Humane Society's Website.

The Humane Society says they expect to place Stewie in his new home next week.

Stewie's brother, Loki, was allegedly strangled and killed by Heckmann. Both kittens were living with Heckmann at the time. He is accused of taping the alleged abuse.

Heckmann, 25, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges in February, but the judge rejected the deal and set a trial date for June.

Under the plea deal, Heckmann would have only gotten probation. If Heckmann is convicted in the upcoming trial, he could face up to 18 months in prison.
