A junior from Falcon High School is in Ancient Olympia, Greece to become one of the first torch bearers of the Olympic torch relay.

Marlee Tate joined Mayor John Suthers in Greece for the event. Tate was named Young Champion Ambassador. The program was created after Colorado Springs and Ancient Olympia became sister cities in 2014.

"The main vision of the YCA program is to create awareness about the legacy of the Olympic movement in Colorado Springs and to enhance the city's image as an attractive destination for people from around to world," said city spokeswoman Krithika Prashant.

Ancient Olympia is the birthplace of the Olympic Games more than 2,700 years ago and the home of the International Olympic Academy.
