Springs Family Rewarded For Military Service

A collection of Colorado Springs businesses came together Saturday to show their gratitude to our military community.

“Wheels 4 Heroes” was born out of the desire to give back to the community of military personnel who provide freedom to our country.

Angelique Blake and her kids were surprised not only by a Skype session with her husband who is serving in Afghanistan, but also by a car, donated by five Springs businesses.

“Oh my God… I don’t know any of these people and for them to do this out of the kindness of their heart for a complete stranger is just amazing.” Blake said shortly after receiving the car.

Randy’s Towing, Glass America, CarToys, Tire World and Larry Miller Toyota partnered with Global Collision to provide a vehicle to a military family. Global Collision added a page to their Facebook page to allow people to nominate military families for the drawing.

“The military community works hard for us.” Brent, the Global Collision general manager, said of the giveaway. “They dedicate their lives and people don’t understand the struggles they have being in the military.”

The Blake family has been driving in an unreliable car. Blake, who is eight months pregnant with the family’s third child, said the car was exactly what they needed.

“We’re due to have this baby in two months and I keep thinking 'what if this car doesn’t start when I go into labor?'”

The car has been completely rebuilt, including a rebuilt engine by Larry Miller Toyota. The car wasn’t the only gift for the family. Blake’s children were treated to a pile of toys as well.

“Wheels 4 Heroes” plan to donate another vehicle to a deserving family in July.
