One man has been arrested after police say he accidentally discharged his gun inside his apartment, damaging his neighbor's patio door.

Anthony Cunningham, 25, told police he had his loaded, cocked .45 caliber handgun in his lap while working on the computer. Incorrectly thinking the thumb safety was engaged, police say he tried to lower the hammer with his finger on the trigger, causing the gun to discharge into the floor.

Cunningham then reportedly checked with his neighbor to make sure no one was hurt.

The incident occurred at the Copperstone Apartments, located on 23 N. Circle.

Records show that Cunningham is an active duty soldier from Fort Carson. He currently is being held on a $2,000 bond.
