Six brothers are accused of sexually assaulting a young girl for 10 years. Their parents allegedly knew about it.
The alleged abuse happened in North Carolina, about an hour outside of Greenville, but we are told when the investigation began a year ago, the family moved to Colorado Springs.
The Perquimans County Sheriff says when the brothers turned themselves in, they were emotionless.
The abuse allegedly started when the girl was 4 years old and lasted until she was 14, about a year or two ago.
The brothers range in age from 18 to 27.
“They haven't been taught any different. I'm not sure when that's going to sink in exactly what you're doing was wrong,” said Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley.
Their parents are also charged in the case because deputies say they witnessed the abuse and did nothing.
"Personally I lay the blame on the parents and their charges are less than what the boys are going to get," said Sheriff Tilley.
The investigation began in 2012 when the oldest brother reportedly confessed to his pastor, who advised him to tell police.
All six of the brothers are currently in jail in North Carolina. The parents are out on bond right and we are told they are in Colorado Springs. 11 News tried to contact them Tuesday night but couldn't reach them.
The girl is now in the custody of social services.
