Two people are behind bars after shots were fired on the southeast side of the Springs late Tuesday night.

Officers were already in the area when they heard shots ring out just before 10 p.m. After responding to the area of Union and Monterey, witnesses told police they saw muzzle flashes coming from a white Mustang. An officer spotted the car in question and tried pulling it over, but say the driver refused to stop. After a short chase, the Mustang crashed into a garage and both suspects inside tried to make a run for it.

Police say both men were quickly caught. One of the suspects, who police identified as 22-year-old Trenton Porter, allegedly refused to comply with officer commands and had to be tazed. Police say Porter was carrying a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. He was charged felony vehicular eluding--as police say he was the one driving the Mustang--and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

The passenger, identified as 27-year-old Damen Lewis, was reportedly found to be on a parole for aggravated robbery, and was charged for violating his parole and for obstructing a police officer.

Lewis and Porter were both taken to the Criminal Justice Center.
