A Weld County man is under investigation after a homemade explosive device went off inches away from him, injuring him.
After being admitted to the hospital, Kevin Armfield allegedly told authorities that he had been shot in the chest and leg. But as deputies began their investigation, they say they found evidence that Armfield had actually been injured by an explosive.
After talking to Armfield, deputies searched a home on the 36000 block of WCR 43 near Eaton. The Sheriff's Office says deputies found evidence in the home that Armfield was building the homemade explosive, and that it was his own device that went off and injured him.
Armfield was taken into custody after being released from the hospital. He faces charges of possession and use of an explosive or incendiary device.
