Threats against schools are being taken very seriously right now, and law enforcement is taking the side of caution. 11 News talked with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office who said they are seeing threats and rumors happen all over the country.

Friday, the Sheriff's Office said they had to step up patrols around the entire county because they said they've had several mentions and rumors about things happening on the day 12/21/12.

In Cañon City, a Harrison Middle School student sent a text message to two other students at two separate Canon City Schools threatening school violence at Harrison School at the close of school today. The violence described a school shooting.

A 13 year-old boy of Cañon City was taken into custody for investigation of charges related to Interference with Staff, Faculty or Students of Educational Institutions. He was later released to his parents.

Earlier this week in El Paso County, deputies were forced to respond with increased patrols to a rumor which turned out to be just that, a rumor.

"But regardless of that, and despite that conclusion that we came to, we did in fact deploy additional resources and school districts throughout the county," El Paso County Sheriff’s Lt Jeff Kramer said.

"It was worth at least investigating so yeah, I think it's pretty worth their time to do it, it's just a shame they have to do it," a Springs dad said.

Over the past week, we've seen and heard these instances happen across the country, and those we talked to say right now, there's not a better option for law enforcement

"I think it's smart for the time being for them to adequately stock our school for safety," a local mom told us.

"It's annoying because you're like we're here to learn not to be in danger of something happening," one high schooler said.

In Pueblo, a middle school student claimed to find a note about a bomb inside the school. He later admitted to writing the note and is now in Pueblo's Youth Corrections facing felony charges.

"I think it's unfortunate, what it does, it puts tremendous stress on our local law enforcement," a Springs parent said.

That teen is facing charges of false report of explosives, weapons, or harmful substances; a class 6 felony.
