East Bijou and North Academy Boulevard are back open Saturday morning after a two-vehicle accident that had the two roads shut down for several hours overnight.
The crash happened shortly after midnight in Colorado Springs.
Police and medical crews responded to the intersection after an officer witnessed the accident while stopped at a red light. The officer said he saw a vehicle turn from Academy onto Bijou in front of another vehicle. The officer was immediately went to help the occupants of the vehicles and called for assistance.
Four people were taken to local hospitals for their injuries; at least one was injured seriously. Police shut down the intersection at Bijou and Academy so that the Major Accident Unit could further investigate the accident.
Police were able to reopen the intersection at approximately 4:45 a.m. Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected causes of this accident.
