Scammers are posing as El Paso County sheriff's deputies in an attempt to intimidate unsuspecting victims into giving them money.
Colorado Springs police say two incidents have been reported to them in recent days.
According to police, the scam works like this: a man calls identifying himself as Lt. Carl Felton or Lt. Carl Shelton with EPSO. He tells the victim that he or she missed a jury duty subpoena, and must wire $900 immediately or be arrested. Both times, the caller knew the victim's address.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says they would never call and threaten arrest unless a payment is made. They confirmed to police that this is clearly a phone scam.
Police say that if you receive a similar call, to hang up and call CSPD at 444-7000.
