Safeway, Albertsons To Merge

Two major grocery store chains in Southern Colorado are about to merge.

The owners of Albertsons and Safeway have made a deal to merge the companies. Albertsons says the deal will lead to lower prices, and some of the stores will be remodeled.

CNN Money reports that the move will create a network of 2,400 stores, 27 distribution facilities and 20 manufacturing plants with more than 250,000 employees. The merger will not close any stores.

11 News has been told the deal could go through by the end of the year.
