Safety Tips For Evacuees Returning Home

Evacuees wait at the Vollmer and Burgess checkpoint on Saturday, June 15 to be allowed back into their homes to retrieve pets and critical medication.

As more and more evacuees return home, many are trying to figure out how to move forward.

Air quality, cleaning up after smoke damage and food safety are among the numerous questions so many residents are wrestling with.

The El Paso County Public Health Department has issued a number of tips to help residents determine the next steps to take. To view these tips, click here.

They also have representatives at the Disaster Assistance Center available to talk to fire victims. Residents can go in person to the 1675 Garden of the Gods address or call 444-8301.
