The long delays are going to continue Tuesday on Highway 24.
CDOT is continuing their work to remove loose rocks sitting above the road near Cave of the Winds. Crews began work Monday morning.
Tuesday's rock scaling operations are scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. During that time, traffic in both directions will be stopped for 20 minutes at a time. Eastbound traffic will stop at Cave of the Winds, while westbound traffic will be stopped at the East Manitou Springs exit.
For an alternate route, eastbound traffic can take Serpentine Drive to Manitou Avenue, and then take the east Manitou Springs exit. Westbound traffic will be able to exit at the east Manitou Springs exit and go west on Manitou Avenue to Serpentine Drive and back to Highway 24.
Big rigs are asked not to take these detours through Manitou Springs. A large truck became stuck Monday on a tight turn on Serpentine Drive. Big rig drivers are asked to stay on Highway 24 and wait for the lanes to reopen.
