It's a terrifying moment most hope to never face: coming home late at night only to stumble upon a burglary in progress.

That was the case for one Springs family, who got home at 12:30 a.m. Friday only to find a stranger digging through their belongings.

When the suspect realized he had been caught red-handed, he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victims while trying to find a way out of the home. He ended up leaving the home empty-handed.

Police searched the area around the victims' home, which is located on the 1700 block of Sawyer Way near Murray and Palmer Park Boulevard, but found no trace of the suspect.

The suspect has been described as a black man in his 20s, 5-foot-10 with a medium build, wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP to remain anonymous.
