Resident, Kittens Survive Early Morning House Fire

A resident and a litter of kittens were unharmed after a fire broke out at a home in Walsenburg Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 1:38 a.m. When crews got to the home on the 100 block of Tyler, they said the house was engulfed in flames. The occupant was able to escape from the burning building unharmed.

Sixteen firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. While battling the fire, crews discovered a litter of young kittens still at the home. Walsenburg police are currently caring for them.

The fire's cause is still under investigation.
