Recreational Marijuana Still Up For Debate In Pueblo

City councilors in Pueblo are waiting a little longer to decide the future of recreational marijuana in their city.

Monday night, City Council decided two things: to extend a hold on growing recreational marijuana until June 30, and to extend a hold on retail sales until the end of November.

Council members say they want to wait for a possible vote in November over a city sales tax on recreational marijuana. But some voters say waiting that long is a waste of time and money.

"I understand we really enjoy an extra sales tax on every little bit of marijuana sold in Pueblo, but by waiting until December 31, we're missing out on millions," one resident said via video during the meeting.

Pueblo County and Manitou Springs so far are the only places in Southern Colorado to allow recreational marijuana to be sold. No businesses have been set up in Manitou Springs yet.
