Pueblo County has enacted fire restrictions due to high fire dangers.

The following information was released from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office:

After careful review of current and forecasted weather conditions and in concert with the Fire Chiefs in Pueblo County, Sheriff Taylor has moved Pueblo County into Stage I Fire Restrictions. These restrictions go into effect immediately.
Stage I Fire Restriction prohibits the following :
• Open burning, except fires and campfires within constructed fire grates inside developed camp and picnic grounds, charcoal grills and wood burning stoves at private residences. These areas must be cleared of all flammable materials.
• The sale or use of fireworks without a permit
• Outdoor smoking except inside a vehicle or stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren of all flammable materials.

Sheriff Taylor believes this move is necessary for the safety of the community. “This isn’t a decision that we take lightly but it is with serious consideration for the safety and well being of, not just the citizens, but also of the responders in Pueblo County.”

The restrictions will not preclude farmers from necessary agricultural burning; a permitting process is in place that will allow them to coordinate their burns with their respective fire agency. Citizens are still encouraged to practice diligence with regards to fire safety.

These restrictions will remain in effect until an order from Sheriff Taylor is issued.
