After a mild Saturday, temperatures to finish the weekend will be MUCH colder! A system to our west pushes into SE Colorado overnight. Snow showers will be possible by early Sunday morning across the I-25 corridor with a change to rain and snow showers through the afternoon. Accumulation should be minimal as most moisture looks to be light and temperatures will warm into the upper 30s and 40s through the afternoon. Pueblo City School has received a $10.3 million grant to fund specialized programs.
The grant is part of the Magnet Schools Assistance Program.
Money from the grant will be used to fund STEM and renewable energy education needs. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics.
The following schools have been identified as renewable energy-themed and/or engineering-themed magnet schools and will receive the funding.
- Bessemer Academy
- Central High School
- Highland Park Elementary
- Roncalli STEM Academy
According to a press release, the schools will be designed to improve education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and prepare students for careers in those fields as well as in renewable energy.
“Pueblo City Schools is excited about this amazing opportunity to respond to the global need for renewable energy,” Superintendent Dr. Maggie Lopez said in a statement released by the district Wednesday. “This grant will assist in providing a high quality, globally competitive education to students wishing to pursue careers in the ever expanding fields of STEM and renewable energy.”
The grant started in July of this year and runs until June 30, 2016
