Solar energy workers are headed to the Colorado Capitol to protest plans by Xcel Energy to cut incentives for solar arrays.
Organizers of the rally say hundreds of workers and college students will protest the electricity company's decision to drop solar incentives from about $2.35 per watt to $2.01 per watt. Xcel says the cost of installing solar panels is falling and has asked the Colorado Public Utilities Commission to further slash the incentive to $1.25 per watt.
The solar workers say that if the Xcel incentives are slashed further, jobs in the renewable energy sector will be at risk.
