A controversial bill is gaining momentum in the state legislature. Colorado lawmakers are considering a measure that would give legal immunity to pregnant women found with drugs in their system.
The lawmakers who are backing it say the ultimate goal is to protect the unborn baby.
The idea is to encourage pregnant women with a drug problem to see their doctors and get the necessary help without fear of criminal prosecution.
If the measure passes, drug test results couldn't be used in court if the test was ordered by the women's doctor.
Critics worry this will give drug addicts a free pass.
The bill is now headed to the full Senate.
