Police: Shoplifting Suspect Scratches Officer During Arrest

A shoplifting suspect is also facing charges of second-degree assault on a peace officer after allegedly scratching the officer trying to arrest her.

Springs police say 22-year-old Ashley Henderson was caught helping another woman hide clothing while at the Walmart on East Platte Saturday afternoon. When Officer Jason Laurence confronted her, Henderson allegedly tried to escape, then clawed at Laurence's arms after he grabbed her. Police say Laurence only sustained minor injuries.

Henderson's alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Rebecca Holt, was compliant with officers and only cited.

Henderson was arrested for theft and assault charges.
