Police say a shoplifting suspect was caught red-handed by a loss prevention officer after trying to leave Macy's without paying for an item.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hills Mall in Colorado Springs.

After reportedly getting in a fight with the loss prevention officer, suspect Dustin Harper was detained until Springs police arrived. The loss prevention officer sustained a minor injury in the altercation.

Police say Harper gave officers a fake name at first. After later giving his real name, police discovered he already had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Harper was booked into the Criminal Justice Center on the two existing warrants and new robbery charges.
