A missing at-risk adult is safe thanks to a vigilant citizen.
Police say the citizen recognized Gerald Wasinger from the flyers distributed after he went missing, and called police. Wasinger had been missing for almost 20 hours when he was spotted near Peterson and Omaha, more than seven miles from his home on Illinois Avenue, where he was last seen.
Wasinger is developmentally disabled, reportedly having the mind of a child. He also suffers from undisclosed medical conditions. Family and police were concerned for his safety after he disappeared Saturday afternoon.
Wasinger was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but police say he appears to be doing fine.
