A stolen car is in police possession, but the suspect caught driving it is still on the loose.
The man bolted after noticing police in a parking lot near San Miguel and Academy in Colorado Springs, where he was idling in a stolen red Honda Accord.
Detectives had first spotted the stolen car after pulling into the parking lot Friday evening, and had called patrol officers for backup. When the suspect realized there were police around him, he made a run for it, reportedly clipping an unmarked police car on the way out of the lot. He drove for a short distance, then ditched the car and ran away on foot.
Police, with the help of the K-9 unit, searched six to eight blocks but couldn't find him.
The suspect has been described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, around 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9, wearing dark clothing. Police do not believe he is a threat to the community.
If you have any information on the suspect's whereabouts, call Springs police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
