Police want everyone to be aware of counterfeit money, especially around this time of year.
They say crooks are taking a real $1 bill, washing it out and then imprinting a hundred dollar bill image on top of it.
Businesses use marking pens to assure the $100 bill is real but police say the pens will not pick up the fake bill because the actual paper is real.
Businesses should make visual inspections along with using the pen to insure accuracy.
If you receive a fake bill, you are asked to call Colorado Springs police right away.
That number is 444-7000 and if you want to remain anonymous,
call Crime-Stoppers at 634-STOP.
