Colorado Springs police are investigating two robberies that happened just hours between each other.

The first call came in just after 6:30 p.m. after a 7-Eleven on Union and Fountain was held up.

The clerk was stocking shelves when the suspect entered the store carrying a gun. He reportedly demanded all the money in the register, as well as cigarettes. The clerk was the only person in the store at the time.

The suspect has been described as a young black man between the ages of 18 and 21, about 5-foot-7 with a medium build. The clerk was unable to get a clear look at his face, as the suspect was wearing a black hoodie pulled tightly over his face, concealing most of his facial features.

The suspect was also wearing light black jeans.

It was the second time in less than a month that the clerk has been robbed at gunpoint. He was working at a different 7-Eleven a few weeks ago when it was held up. The clerk, who wished to remain anonymous, told 11 News that he once worked as an interpreter in Iraq--he was threatened there, but never expected to have a gun pointed at his head here.

Less than an hour later, a second robbery call came in, this time at a Subway restaurant located in a shopping strip on the 1600 block of Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard.

Similar to the 7-Eleven robbery, the suspect walked in and aimed a gun at the lone employee inside the store, demanding money. After the employee handed over cash, the suspect left the store and climbed into a vehicle parked in the area.

Though there were a couple of variations between the descriptions--the Subway robber was described as being in his 20s and standing about 6 feet tall--police say there were enough similarities between the descriptions and how the robberies were carried out that they might be connected. The Subway robber was also a black male, wearing a black hoodie and dark-colored pants.

There is no vehicle description available at this time.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
