Colorado Springs police are investigating a homemade bomb made with commercial fireworks found inside a home.

Police say the device was spotted just before 10 a.m. Sunday. According to a police report, a bomb squad disarmed the device without having to detonate it.

Police Sgt. Chris Areseneau says it could have caused a lot of damage and would have hurt anyone nearby if it had exploded.

Police say the device was cylindrical and about 10 to 12 inches long. The homeowner found the device and reported it to police.

Investigators are hoping to pull fingerprints from the device to help identify a suspect.
